    Lightbulb Homemade Fountains

Has anyone played around with making a fountain out of PVC?

I've got an extra return fitting since I don't have a pressure side cleaner. I've added a ball valve so I can isolate it from the other three return jets.

I'm looking for recomendatons on fittings to make something I can remove/instal easily. I was thinking of connecting two 12" pieces of 1.5" PVC with a 45 L, caping one end and drilling several small holes into the cap for my "fountain".

    Thanks!

Sure. You can do anything with PVC. See the pic for my 'fountain' for melting ice. BTW...what's the purpose of the fountain? Aerating to drop TA, decorative, or just playing? Since you're only talking 12" sections probably just a PVC pipe fitting to screw into the return would be OK compared to a much more expensive union.

We were at the pool store last year and saw a T-shaped one for $45. My husband made one exactly like the one they had for $8!!! He took some PVC pipe, cut it to the length we wanted and boiled it near the bottom to get it to bend. He used PVC pipe to glue the top bar and drilled 1/8 of an inch holes about 1" in two rows. LOVE IT!! He says you need the following:
    8 foot PVC pipe
male thread the size of your jet (1/4" or 1/2") to screw in
    2 end caps
    PVC glue
    a "T"
    an elbow

Here's some pictures of ours to help you out. Any questions, just ask away!!!!

I did one pretty easy, just a short (4-5") length that threads into the outlet, a threaded coupler, a 90 corner and a 4 foot piece plus cap.
Thread the short piece in, thread the long piece on, align two rows of holes to shoot into the pool. Since my Extra outlet is in the shallow end, I had to have the extra threaded coupler because the pipe itself was to long to rotate in the shallow end. Basically the holes go from about a foot above the water up the pipe to the cap about 3 feet above the water.
I did this initially to cause evaperation on those extremly hot summers to lower the water temp. It would take down from 98 to about 96, not great, but better.

Well I made a fountain out of spare PVC parts I had and a .89 cent 1.5" adapter I bought for the extra return line. (Pics below, you can also see the "Poolboy" hard at work) The sound of the water is great for relaxing in the backyard.

Depending on how I position the valves on my plumbing, I can make water shoot over the fence and into the neighbors yard....

I'm going to make one that sticks farther out into the pool with a vertical jet later (I'm turning into a PVC Davinci....)
