Electrical Connection 115 vs 230 Volts

I have several Jandy PHP pumps associated with my new pool installation (waterfall,etc) . these pumps are dual 115/230 Volts. Is there any major advantage to wiring at 230 versus 115 volt? I know less amps is less I^2R losses ,so 230 V operation may be a bit more efficient. Anything else? If not I will probably eat the incremental losses and wire at 120 Volts for compatibility with my X10 home automation system. Thanks in advance for any input.

Pump will run a little cooler at the higher voltage but the losses are the only difference I know of. If you're willing to accept that then go for convenience and simplicity.

You might need larger or more breakers if you go with 120 volts. Larger wire also might be needed. X-10 makes several devices that will control 240 volt loads. Go with the 240, you'll be happier in the end.

I have not been able to find any X10 switch or relay rated for 240 V load and outdoor use. Can you provide any specifics . thanks again for any assistance. Curt

Radio shack has X10-230V modules, usually for appliances.
You'll not really save any money by running 230 volts (it costs the same: 230V @ 7 amps = 115 V @ 14 amps; P (power in watts) = I (current)x V(volts))
However, as thepoolman said, you'll save in breaker rating and wire gauges.

My whole house is automated with a lot of X10 devices and controled with Homeseer software.
My experience is to stay away from most of the junk that x-10 makes.

To make it weather poof I have it installed in a sealed pvc electrical box with my wiring in pvc conduit back to the panel.
