you could just cut the pipes and put a rubber mission coupling in there. it has two hose clamps on it that you may tighten down. Or you could cut out whatever the take off is for a Union and put it in there.

Thanks. I was figuring something like a rubber sleeve with clamps.

Similar to the rubber couplings mentioned by sevver I use straight sections of auto radiator hose of the right diameter and hose clamps. Stuff is reinforced and designed for high temperature and 15 psi pressure and seems to last forever. Probably 6-7th season on mine now and no noticeable deterioration.
