    I just had a similar conversation with our pool contractor for similar reasons and he told me I needed a minimum of six feet of deck for the slide.

    From looking into slides myself, I have found that slide manufacturers post the needed installation requirements on their websites. At least the ones that I was looking at.

    Try a web search for the slides you are thinking about, you should be able to find the manufacturers site and the installation information that you are looking for. If they don't have it posted you can always contact the manufacturer.
