If you have an inline chlorinator it's safest to add bleach in a return stream or to distribute it around the pool in small amounts.

Pouring bleach into a skimmer when you have an inline chlorinator that you're using or have used recently may cause the chlorinator to explode when the relatively undiluted bleach reaches the tri-chlor in the chlorinator.
