Question on Adding Bleach

When adding a gallon or more of bleach I dribble it around the pool then try to stir the water up to help it disperse. No matter what I do I continually seem to have a "cloud" of bleach that stays together. How harmful is this to my vinyl liner? Something to be concerned about? Im just not comfortable pouring gallons of bleach into my skimmer.

I would say if you're dribbling the bleach , it shouldnt be a concern. I do it like that myself. Or you can always slowly pour it in at the return stream with the pump running. As long as its not being dumped in one spot creating a "hotspot" , its all good.

I have added it through the skimmer, without any ill effects in my plaster pool, but do not see any problem doing the same in a vinyl pool.

You should get better distribution that way.

One potential problem with pouring bleach into a skimmer is that if you have an inline chlorinator (e.g. Rainbow 320) that you're using or have used recently the chlorinator may explode when the relatively undiluted bleach reaches the tri-chlor in the chlorinator.

Pouring bleach into the skimmer is fine. I also have a vinyl AG pool and that is the way I add bleach and have for years. Doesn't hurt a thing.

I always add all of my chemicals slowly in front of the return jet and have not noticed any ill effects. When I used to use the powdered shock I used to walk around the pool and add it slowly all the way around, but I am a convert now.
