    Smile Re: How much salt?

I'm a newbie who's still waiting for her AquaRite SWG to be installed but have been reading all I can and posting ?s as they arise.

To determine how much salt to add back into the pool, first do a salt test to determine what residual level you have left after your partial drain. Ben's kit has a great salt test (I've already experimented) or perhaps a good, trusted pool store can test the water for you???

Then go to that great Bleach Calculator and click on "More Calcs" where you'll see a salt calculation listed. Within that salt calculation, you can put in your pool's volume of 12,000 and indicate how much of an INCREASE you want to make in your salt reading. The calculator will tell you how many pounds of salt you need to do that.

I did a calculation there with your pool's volume and the calculator determined that 40 pounds of salt will raise your pool's salt concentration 399.9ppm.

I also looked at my owner's manual for the AquaRite and could not find anything resembling "13 pounds of salt to bring it up to 3200ppm" for a 12,000 gallon pool. The only "13" I found on my entire chart was the amount of salt needed to increase an 8000 gallon pool from a current salt level of 3000ppm to 3200ppm, a 200ppm increase for that size pool. Maybe you have an incorrect chart? You can always go to goldlinecontrols.com to download an owner's manual for your unit, or just the charts, if that's all you need.

Perhaps someone else will have another way for you to determine your remaining salt level if you don't have a way of testing for it.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.
