Default Filling a pool with Sulfur water...not good.

    Hello all,
A friend called me to ask what to do with her friend's pool. Apparently they just bought one of those ring type blue pools, filled it with well water that has alot of sulfur in it....now the pool has yellow water.
Will shocking solve this? I did not know what to tell her.

    Thanks, Frank D.

Tell her to put in a sequstering agent such as jack's magic, metal free, sequasol, anything that says it sequesters the metal. Put in as much or more than it says on the bottle. Tell her to keep the filter running as much as possible, and to add regular household bleach, a cup at a time till the chlorine measures up to 5ppms. I hope this is a pool with a filter? You should post more info.

    Dear Mbar,
Thank you. You are correct that I should have posted more info, but this was all the info I was given. I will find out more. As stated, this is "a friend of a friend".......
I've boasted about this great website for 5 years to many, got my first kit and joined years ago, and as a result, you end up being the guy to call........

thank you again for your help.

I hope this "friend of a friend" does not have a SWCG, otherwise the cell will be destroyed in a hurry.

Our well water also has sulphur... will really smell like rotten eggs if it's been sitting in the hot water heater too long. We filled our donut with it last year. I didn't have the yellow color that you describe though. If I remember correctly, this is hydrogen sulfide. Treating it with chlorine and aeration should eliminate the problem... as well as constant filtering. One of the real chemists on this board can probably shed more light on this one. The combination of bleach and aeration should oxidize it and also cause it to gas-off. Hydrogen sulfide will break down to sulfuric acid. I can't remember what that will do to ph... someone else here should know. PH isn't a huge concern with that kind of pool.
