    Default Mitten in my pool!

I've been battling algae for several weeks. Just got done sweeping and vacuuming again this morning before shocking again. The vacuum pulled out two winter mittens (?) rolled up together! My pool guy kept telling me I must have something "foreign" in my pool that the chlorine was attacking instead of the algae. Could that be true?

If you are asking "did the mittens turn my pool green?", the answer is "no".

    Algae is doing that.

At this stage of the game, I have to wonder, why not replace the water? I would not fight something for this long that is for sure. It is July, the year is almost over, and to still be trying to open the pool is insane. Empty the pool, and change the sand in the filter, and refill it.

I don't know how some of the people would feel about that here, but that is what I would do. I am really interested in using the plastic tarp method by separating the good water from the bad and replacing the water without draining it.
If you have a fire hydrant near you, then use that to fill it , and go rent a two inch pump to drain it. The plastic should be like ten feet or so larger each way than you pool.

Good luck, I know it sucks fighting this stuff, and this is the first year that I did not have to. I closed the pool right last year, and it opened up perfectly this year. Cloudy for two days, then pristene clear ever since using bleach.

I've considered that (refilling the pool), but since I'm living on a very small income right now, I can't afford the $200 in water! So I guess since I have the summer off, I'll just consider this my personal challenge. I'm going to get this pool clear if it kills me!

The only reason it cost $200 is because alot of that is the fee that the City charges for sewage treatment. You can probably get that knocked off if you call them and let them know. That or alot of fire departments will let you slide for $50 flat rate donation. It sucks have a small income I know, this year I went from being a Union construction worker to working in IT and cut my salary in half, I am still making it, but barely. I am considering going back... Good luck.
