For the 5 way kit from walmart , if you fill the test cylinder up to the line and added 5 drops and it didnt register , you need to add chlorine.

Look for MWsmiths Bleach Calculator . It will tell you how much bleach you need for your size pool

I hope you meant Borax (20 mule team) and NOT Boraxo (hand soap).

I hope you didn't use boraxo....that is a hand soap. You need to use Borax (20 mule team in the green box)

Have you put any chlorine into the water? How much? HOwmany gallons is your pool?
Please post a complete set of test results, how many gallons your pool is, and whether it is vinyl, fiberglass, or plaster.

I think the 6 way is the test strip. I have some of those from WalMart but since I found this site I upgraded to the drops kit. It's amazing how different your readings are with the strip and drops. I won't trust a strip test again.
