just bumping to see if anyone knows anything about this. Thanks!
I see all this talk of backwashing and I don't think I can do that with my system. I have a Star DE-50 filter and I see nothing about "backwashing" in the instructions anywhere. It talks about swishing and bumping but I don't see anything about backwashing. Anyone have this filter and/or know anything about it? Thanks!

That'd cinch it for me.Originally Posted by denanbob
I'm guessing you bump and swish to redistribute the de, but once the pressure rises and stays up even after bumping and swishing, I bet you have to break it down and clean it.
Not all DE filters can be backwashed. You can bump them which means you knock the DE off the laterals so it can mix with the dirt that was filtered out and then recoat the laterals with dirty DE. (I am not a fan of bumping a DE filter). To clean them you have to break them down which, IMHO, should be done whether a DE filter is backwashable or not! (I am also not a fan of backwashing a DE filter. I have posted the reasons several times in other posts.
just my 2 cents.
