what kind of timer is a good one?

I am interested in throwing a timer on my "pool to come".........It seems like it would be worth the money instead of trying to remember how long and when each day the pump is/has been running. Any suggestions out there on what kind works well?????

intermatic T103 model. it has 2 sets of lines in/loads out which will be handy as i plan to have my autopilot and pump on load, the heater on the other..(as recommended by poolsean with autopilot)

I have the Hayward 2100 series controller (see http://www.haywardnet.com/products/M...anuals_all.cfm) to run the filter pump, Polaris pump, spa valve, heater, underwater lights, and my yard lights. I recently installed a $200 Pico programmable controller (see http://www.ab.com/programmablecontro...ontroller.html)
to automate my liquid chlorine injection pump, CO2 injection valve, water fill valve, and it has plenty of room for future expansion. It is programmable (via ladder logic) from the faceplate, but I find it easier to use their free software.

I have no financial interest in either Hayward or Allen-Bradley...just a satisfied customer.

I have an Intermatic timer with a metal enclosure box.
I've always wondered, Is this up to code?

i have the metal box one as well and i can tell you that at least in canada, and as of yesterday, it's up to code as i had an electrician in to quote me on some wiring changes for new equipment. the only thing is that it should be wired to a ground fault circuit interrupter breaker. (as should everything in your pool installation anyway)

My pool pump is rated at 12 amps and the timer is rated at 15 amps, so it's big enough. I take the stake off and mount it to a wood post beside our pump. Then in the winter when the pool is closed I put the stake back on and use the timer for our christmas lights.

I just got back from lowes and bought the t101 spst intermatic timer for my pool. We are going to wire it in and install it indoors next to the breaker box. Someone from "intermatic" told me I needed the t101R???? if putting it outside, but I reminded him of our hanging it indoors, which I hope is the right thing to do. I can't imagine NOT having a timer on the pump and going outside all the time. I bought 2 extra trippers so that I can split the 10-12 hours up in the morning and evening. Are you liking your t101 model and is it suiting your purpose? I am having my ABOVE ground installed beginning this wed. Wish me luck
