How do you use the bleach calc? I have a small pool 13x33. 2000 gal. Also I made the mistake and bought clorax bleach so this a no good bleach? Sodium 6.0% yeild 5.7 chlorine, Thanks for you help.

Regular Clorox is fine...any Sodium Hypochlorite is good, as long as there are no other ingrediets (other than the "inert" kind). First, make sure your settings are on imperial and not metric...your units should show gallons and not liters. (Go into "more calcs" and "settings"). enter your pool size, which would be 2,000 gallons and your bleach percentage, which would be 6% and click "save & close". Then, back at the main page, enter either how much bleach you put in OR how many PPM you wish to raise your chlorine amount and click on "calculate". At the grey boxes at the bottom it will give you your other calculations (how much your PPM should be raised if you put "x" amount of bleach in or how much bleach to put in if you want to raise your PPM by "x" amount).

Hi Sherra, I put in 2000 gal 6%. I tested with the strips and the FC shows clears no color what so ever So what should I raise it up to?

When I put in any of the numbers and then calculate it it comes up to Run-time error '13' Type mismatch

How long are you waiting to test? Even for a pool that small I'd wait an hour to re-test...and ditch the strips...get a drop based kit.

For a 2,000 gallon pool, every cup of 6% bleach you add should raise your CC by 2 PPM. 2 cups would raise it 4 PPM, etc.

First of all, are you SURE your gallons are accurate? I have a 15x30 pool and mine is 11,000 gallons at 45" full. You say yours is a 13x33 pool. How deep is it? I can't imagine it being only 2,000 gallons. Double check the gallons accuracy first and then go from there. Good luck!

Ohhhh, I thought you meant your dimensions were 13x33 (like as in an oval pool) and you didn't state your depth. Now I see you're saying you have a 13 foot round pool with 33" of water in it. Sorry, my mistake.

I'm another newbie as of a few minutes ago. It's July and my pool is still green. Hired a "professional service" and they were just as bad as me at keeping it green. Our pool is AG, lazy L, vinyl liner, 30K gallons. New liner last year. Well water with lots of rust/iron.
Testing results are as follows:
From hth test strips (I have read to dump these--and will)
TH=200
FC=10/20
PH=7.0
TA=80
CYA=30-50
From my test kit (I'm thinking this is not accurate either)
Chlorine=3.0+ (turns almost orange)
PH=8.2+ very purple, indicates to add acid

Had the water tested at pool store today, and they said PH was low, add PH up--which I had from "professionals".

I have bugs in the skimmer baskets---must think it's a pond!

First thing to do is get a better test kit!! I would start with a bleach shock and get a better number for your ph.

If your water has a lot of iron in it, the water may be green from that. I would put in enough of a sequestering agent - something like jack's magic, metal free, sequasol - anything that says stain and metal remover. Keep your ph low and add enough according to the directions on the bottle. IT is better to add more than enough, than not enough. Keep your filter running 24/7 - , and if you have a sand or DE filter put a chlorine puck in the skimmer. Do not put a puck in the skimmer if you have a cartridge filter.
