22,000 gallons. 500 square feet in kidney shape is what the pool
manufacturer told me.

You need to get chlorine in the pool ASAP before you grow another large crop of algae. The dead algae on the bottom isn't going to bother it--continue to vaccuum it to waste, and it will eventually go away (keep your filter on 24/7, too). Need to know numbers for Cl, CYA, pH, and TA in order to tell you how high the Cl needs to be to kill the current bloom, but you do definitely need to shock the pool.

How do I test for CYA?
The WalMart 5-way kit that sells for around $15 has a CYA test in it, or you could take it to a pool store to have it tested but either way you need to do it quickly because algae is growing in your pool as we speak..............
