Pool pump failing

I have a 30K IG pool with a huge pine tree which drops needles constantly.
The needle get caught in the pump between the impellor guard and the impellor, causing drag and decreased output. I have to take the pump apart daily and clean it out. For the time being I'm not taking down the tree.
My question is there a pump out there that may preform better under these conditions than others. I currently have a magnatech 1.5hp with three suction lines and 4 return lines.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Try using some skimmer socks or other some such pre-filter to catch those needles before they get to the pump. I don't know of any pump that would handle the situation better than another.

Thanks for the reply. I do use skimmer socks but they don't hold up. The chlorine eats them up and if I don't stay on top of them I still get pine needles in the pump.

You really didn't say what type or brand of pump you have, only the motor manufacturer and hp.

What you need is an open-faced impeller pump like the old Hydro-Pump. They are still available from Pentair though you may have to buy the wet-end and motor separately and put it together. Get a good pool tech to do the job.

There were two names on the pump/motor. One is Magnatech the other is Centurion.

Strange....my skimmer socks last a full season and I keep my chlorine around 4-5ppm.

Have you tried pantyhose instead of the skimmer socks?

Or a different brand of skimmer sock?

Century, Magnatek, Centurian, Magnatek/Centurian are all variations of the motor manufacturer's name depending on when the motor was manufactured.

All pump manufacturers buy motors from a motor manufacturer. If you can post a picture or a reference to a pump that looks like yours at one of the web sites of the manufacturers it would help in getting a good answer to your question.

The description that you gave indicates a semi-closed faced impeller design. These are much more likely to have the problem you describe, especially if the pump is in the 1.5hp and above range. An open faced design is still my recommendation.
