    Default NewbiePump questions...bleeding out air?

24' round 52" wall pool, ~13.5k gallons. 75 DE filter, 2 speed pump 2hp and .25 hp, I think. That's what it says on the pump sticker, but does .25hp sound right? I get pretty good flow from it on the low speed. Anyhow, here's the question:

When the pump is on high, it's like tornado speed. I realize now I was probably oversold on the pump, but it came with the 'package' I bought. When I shut it off, there's a 'burp' in the system that shoots the skimmer basket up. Is this normal? It's not uncommon for me to have to bleed air out of the system at the top of the DE filter. Should I be expecting to do that all the time? At the return, it tends to create a little tornado effect that sometimes makes a slurping sound too. I did 'fix' it by reorienting the return a bit more upwards.

For most 2 speed pumps, low speed is 1/2 RPM, 1/2 GPM and 1/8 HP of the high speed numbers so 1/4 HP is correct.

The high speed suction could be so great that it is sucking in air from the valves and/or other places. 2 HP is too much pump for nearly every residential pool. But if it runs spa jets too, then you have to have it. Best solution is to just run it on low all the time.
