Ignore the bromine side, and just read your chlorine scale. Some people with spas use bromine for sanitation, and that's the only time you need to pay attention to that scale. YOur pool doesn't contain bromine--

Yup , it only goes to 5...but you can still use it with your pool .

The important thing is knowing where you're at and how much bleach you need to use. For example , lets say your at 3 ppm , if you add enough bleach to go up 2ppm , get you to 5.. if you are at 4 , going up 2 would put you at 6.. over the limit of the kit , but using educated guess , you'd know its there

I couldnt even begin to do any of that without MWsmiths Bleach Calculator . if you dont already have it ...

Thanks and to think all this time I thought my chlorine was high enough! No wonder I was having problems.

I may seem super dense although I cannot figure out the bleach calc. It is in litres! I have an 18 x 48 pool with a cya of 30. I just dump an educated guess in every night! It would be great to actually have an exact amount. Can anyone help?

In the upper left corner , click on More Calcs , go to settings , you can put in the values for pool volume and bleach stength , click imperial (u.s. gallons) , save & close..
