Just spent a month getting rid of green algae and water chemicals corrected. Finally have the water balanced and handle on the algae, except alkilinity is a little high right now. But I ended up with some light brown staining on my white pool ladder and the skimmer opening plate and a few areas on the bottom of vinyl liner pool. Had pool for 20 years and never had this problem. I did recently install a solar panel before all this started but dont think would be the problem.

First, unless your solar panel was full of rusty water when you installed it, it's not the source--it's just co-incidental.

You need to post numbers so we can see if it's something obvious or not.
