Here's Ben's post on lowering alkalinity: http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?t=191.
After he lays out the procedure he explains the chemistry behind it.
Hope this helps.
Just doing general reading/studying past posts trying to understand why my ph has slowly been creeping up the past few days. I've come across this term before today in different posts related to ph/alkalinity. From what I understand, it means to somehow agitate the water (kids jumping, pointing returns upward to created bubbles/water features) which can helps to lower ph and/or alkalinity along side using acid or bicarb. I've gotten that far, but I can't put together the why and how and I want to make sure I'm on the right track.
1) Could someone please specifically define aeration for me with respect to pools/water chemistry and maintenance
2) Explain briefly some of the ways to accomplish and why it works
