The pump I will be getting is the Dura-Glas, which seems to been around since dinosaur time. So I assume this will be a extremely relaible pump, right?

you won't go wrong with a duraglas. that is what i currently have..it's still running fine and it's been 4 summers for me and i'm guessing at least 4 years before that if not longer before i owned the house. it does not leak and only thing i've done on it is changed the lid because the gasket developed a crack (would have likely been fine if i lubed it with silicon spray but my understanding was it was permanently lubed. i suspect the gasket had been replaced prior and quite frankly, it would not have hurt for a 5 dollar can of silicone spray from napa to spray it once a season anyway)
I just replaced a Hayward 3/4 hp SuperPump II with a Sta-Rite MaxEPro 3/4 this season. Moves a lot more water and is much quieter to operate. The servicing looks like it will be much easier as the impellor housing is held together with a stainless steel quick release band. The inlet basket is much larger. The only downside for me was the extra work involved in switching to 2" lines, but I was installing an AutoPilot SWG at the same time and it is a 2" manifold (I also replaced my Multiport valve that was 16 years old with a 2" version).
Also, I called Sta-Rite concerning a question I had about the pump before I ordered and was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to get to talk to a real person and that person was knowledgeable and happy to assist me. Now its just a matter of whether or not the product holds up over time, but I will certainly look favorably at Sta-Rite for other equipment needs now.
I have a Sta-Rite 1˝ HP pool pump and a Sta-Rite 1˝ Hp well pump, and apart from from having to repair the pool pump from a mistake I made, they have both served me well.
