Right!
Ph prevents algae.(Not sure I have this right)
Nope. pH is a measure of how acid or alkaline your water is--just like High School Chemistry class. Too acid water melts your liner and corrodes your equipment and makes your eyes burn. Too alkaline reduces the effectiveness of chlorine and promotes scaling--and gives the water a slimey feel and a bitter taste.
CYA stabilizes the CL.
Right! But it does this by slowing down the chlorine. Too little and UV rays can burn off chlorine in as little as 15 minutes. Too much and you can think you are protected, but your water can STILL become infested with algae or bacteria.
CL sanitizes and kills off the impurites in the water.
Right. It kills algae, bacteria, metabolizes suntan lotion and is the ONLY thing that safely neutralizes fecal matter. It's the most important thing you put in your pool other than the water and (of course) the people. We recommend you use laundry bleach or liquid chlorine generally.
Filter carries away the dirt.
Yup. (but only if it's working correctly!)
What's that old axiom? A little knowledge makes you dangerous?
