Default 1st Test with PS234 SN. 6299 my Results

Tested today. and Here are my results:

    Date: 7/4/06
    FC: 3.5
    CC: 0
    TC: 3.5
    pH: 7.5
    Alk: 70
    Cal: 80
    Cya: 22
    Temp: 88 degrees

    I have a 18 x 40 x 54 above ground pool that has about 49"-50" of water.
It is a vinyl above ground Tahitian. I figure I'm just about 18,000 gal. or 69,000 liters. Using a Haward 300 lb. sand filter for 1st stage and Pentair 150 Cf cartridge for second stage polishing filter. Two speed Pentair Dyanflo 1 hp pump. 1 1/2" PVC hard piped. Also have blue solar bubble cover I use at night and nine 2'x20' solar heaters mounted on 2nd story flat roof. Big mouth skimmer and 1 return. Is that enough info? I got two dogs and 3 kids.

Water had been clear up to yesterday. Water is cloudy now. Check chlorine with little plastic kit and had no chlorine that could be read. Used Bleach Calc and added two gallons of bleach and brought up to 3.5 ppm. (7 drops of Ben's solution 3)

How are these numbers. What are my targets and what do you suggest to remove the cloudiness. This is my first test with Ben's Kit. He had a note with the kit that he was sending a guide later. I thought he said it was to be mailed out on June 25th, but I have not received it yet. Has anyone else.

Thanks for all your help. Please let me know if these are good numbers are bad ones. No where in the kit did it say what I should have so I don't know if the above readings are out of whack or in line. What's perfect?

    Thank you,
    Aranon

Your numbers are darn near perfect! Your Cl level is dependent on your CYA level (see Ben's Best Guest Chart at the top of the Cl forum). I think your CYa is probably a little low, but others advocate 20-40 ppm. If you find that your Cl drops too frequently during the day, you might want to consider upping it a little. Ph should stay 7.2-7.8, alk generally should be 80-120, but if your pH is staying stable with it at 70, then leave it alone. Calcium doesn't matter in a vinyl pool.

If your water is getting cloudy, then shock it (raise your Cl to 10) and leave your filter running overnight. That should take care of it.
