You can continue with the trichlor pucks but they will only add cya (stabilizer) slowly and in the meantime, you're may have trouble keeping chlorine in your pool. If it were my pool, I'd quit the trichlor and just add an initial dose of cya and just use bleach. If you do decide to do that, add an initial dose of cya to get you up to 30. Add it to the skimmer while the pump is running and then don't retest, add more or backwash for a week to let it dissolve completely. While it is dissolving, you'll probably have to test and maybe add bleach morning and evening to keep the cl in there but after a week, you'll be able to just do it in the evenings. With a cya of 30, you'll need to maintain a chlorine reading between 3-6.

Some others may chime in here and tell you to just stick with the trichlor for now until your cya level gets to about 40 and then switch to bleach. That is ok, too, but until the trichlor builds your cya level up some, it may be hard to keep a cl reading. Your choice. Either way will work. Just my $.02.

You may be able to buy it cheaper at someplace other than a pool store. Walmart, Lowe's and Home Depot should all have it. It might be called conditioner. Check the ingredients - it should say cyanuric or isocyanuric acid.
