Default what is a power ionizer?

I see that the previous owner installed this power ionizer thing. It is displaying a temperature (that im not sure is accurate). There is a dial on the side that is set to 2 if i turn it any higher I get a red service light. 2 and lower gives me a green "active" light.

    any suggestions?

Here is a link I found that gives some technical info.
    http://www.rhtubs.com/ion-technical.htm
The active light means the unit is recieveing electrical power (don't they usualy call those things "on indicator lights?) and the red light means that the electrodes need to be replaced. The temperature is supposed to be accurate to within 4 deg if the pump is on and water is flowing through it.

It is your basic copper/silver ionizer and for more info check the section of the forum on metals (this one is good, check popcorngirls post http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?t=91 ) and read Ben's FAQ!

Best suggestion I can give you about it is to disconnect it and get it out of your system.
Read the info on copper/silver in the metal section of the forum, especially Ben's FAQ! (I know I'm repeating myself but is IS important info!
