I think you are probably fine. Like you said, you just have to learn how a new pool behaves. Enjoy your pool and if you have further questions down the road, we'll be here!

Down to 8.5ppm...7 hours after it was 14 this morning on a beautiful 90 degree sunny day. I think that's too much of a drop for normal sun consumption don't you?

    Shelley,

eliminate the Sun from the equation. Test accurately at dusk, add Cl back to 14, and then test again tomorrow AM before the Sun hits your pool.

That way, any Cl loss has to be contributed to organics....shouldn't be much more than 1ppm if your pool is all cleaned up.

Dave, I don't understand why the pool smells like chloramines. I shocked up to 16ppm (32 drops of FAS-DPD #2) last night at 9pm and this morning it's at 14.5 (29 drops of #2). It doesn't reads any CC after 5 drops of FAS-DPD#3, if it does, 1 drop of #2 takes care of it.

Everyone is noticing the pool water doesn't feel so great. I'm wondering if I shouldn't have taken the CYA from 30 to 40 last week.

    Shelly,

Have you checked that you don't have anything in the skimmer and pool pump baskets that should'nt be there.

I only wish. I check and empty them daily. Nothing more than a few blades of grass. Even though my pressure hasn't increased on my filter, I'm going to backwash and add a cup of DE for good measure. I read here on the forum you don't grow algae in a properly maintained pool, and therefore don't need to brush the walls, but I think I'm going to do that also even though I don't feel anything on them. It's a difficult job from outside an above ground pool but I don't think I should get in the pool at 14ppm FC.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions...keep 'em coming!
