Well water - to use or not to use

Well, (pun intended) I am no fan of well water. They frequently bring issues to your pool that are VERY difficult (read expensive) to get rid of....i.e. METALS.

It would be a no-brainer for me. Unless I had tested it (particulary for the presence of metals), there would be no well water entering my pool even at 100gpm.

Just out of curiosity, where does the water come from that the water truck people bring? This might be a stupid question, but I honestly don't know. It's not like distilled or spring water is it? That would be really super expensive, right?

Great question. In the case of the folks I used, in 1982 when the pool was built, it came from their own well. Very deep, super cold - the water was hovering around 40 degrees in July. This time around it was Town water - same trucking company. The water was drinking quality - trace amts of chlorine in it already. And about 70 degrees in temperature. I guess it all depends on the company where their source is. I think town water would be as purified as it would get for the cost reasons you mentioned.

I filled my 25,700 gallon pool with our well water and my water is beautiful. I did have it tested for metals at the pool store and I didn't have any. It took me about a week and a half. I let it run for 2 or 3 hours and then turned it off for an hour or 2. I didn't think it would ever fill. Probably the last 2 days I let it run more as I was anxiouse to get it filled. I didn't run it when we were taking showers. Hope it works out. Sharon

just filled my 15x30 from our well. I think it all depends where you live. not too far from me they sell the water "abita springs water" i used two hoses. Never had a problem with my well are water it is now 6 years old. I also pump it straight into my salt and fresh water fish tanks with no problems.

We filled our 8500 gal pool with softnened well water non stop. Took a day and a half. Had a high alkalinity issue but other than that...saved me some money. Didn't have to remove metals from the water either.

BTW. My Pool is 40,000 Gallons and has been drained and refilled every year by the previous owners for the last 30 years!
I dont plan to do it that way but thats what they did

Takes over 3 days to fill with two hoses. To my knowlege the well pump never needed replacing.

Water is clear and doing well.

We checked into having our 26000 gallon pool filled by truck. However the companies could not guarantee that the water would be any better or have less metals than what was coming our of our well.

We ended up filling the pool from our well. It took five days. We prefiltered the water through a whole house iron filter which then fed a softener. It took several fills of salt and regeneration cycles to complete the process. We then pretreated the water with metal out and Polyquat 60% added the salt and let it circulate for 3-5 days before cranking up the SWG. The water has been crystal clear since startup in early March.

I now fill from a water source that is not softened but has a whole house iron filter on it. I don't want the softened water changing my salt levels.

I opted to get my water trucked in as I knew my well would not be able to keep up with the demand (since I filled it before we got the 20 or so inches of rain over the last two months). The company I used gets their water from several city drinking water supplies depending on where the destination is. If you call to get a quote you can ask them where they get theirs from.
