Question Help with water chem., and SWG

I have a Jandy 1400 SWG in a 15000 gal pebble tec pool. The pool is about 1 and 1/2 years old. I have had a hard time keeping up the chlorine levels using the SWG. I run the filter about 9 hours a day, and the water temp is about 87. I live in the Sacramento California area, where it is hot in the summer. I have a solar heater also. My water chem levels are as follows:

    TC - 1-2 ppm
    PH - 7.5
    TA - 130 ppm
    CH - 380 ppm
    CYA - 90 ppm
    Salt Level - 3100

I have to run the SWG at 95% to maintain this low TC level. Is this normal? I know my CYA is a little high, but can I just let this adjust itself through loss of water etc, or should I drain some? Since I got the pool with the Jandy 1400 SWG, it has seemed that I have had to run it a very high percentages of the time to keep the chlorine levels up. I have cleaned the cell twice, but didn't notice any buildup either time. My filter run time is at 9 hrs per day. Should I run the filter longer and turn down the cell percentage? My water is generally clear, but last week I had a couple spots of algae on the pebble tec, which are now gone after I shocked the pool. Any help would be appreciated.

How long have you had the SWCG. If you are having to run at 95% the cell life might be going faster than you think.

Take the number of days you have been running since installation and multiply by 9 and divide by 24. That should give you the total hours the cell has been in operation. If you can also check the DC volts and amps that the controller is generating, you might want to check with Jandy on that and the life expectancy of the cell.

The CYA at 90 ppm could be a problem, and if you have to drain and refill, bring the CYA down to about 60 - 70 ppm.

The TH (I presume you mean CH) is towards the high side, but if you drain and refill, this should come back to normal.

    Hope thins helps.

The 1400 puts in 1.25 lbs of chlorine per day so given your settings and run time that is over 3.5 ppm per day of chlorine is added to your pool. Given your CYA level, you should be at a much higher CL ppm than you are. I suspect there is a problem with your cell or controller.

Try and test the water right out of a return inlet to see if there is significant CL generated when the unit is on. Then get on the phone with a Jandy tech to see if they have any suggestions.

I agree with the cell being bad or possiblity low salt levels. I have the same cell/controller with an 18,000 gallon pool and run it at 55%. These are my numbers:

    FC 4
    CYA 60 (down from 100+)
    Ph 7.4
    Alk 100
CA 600 (New pool/plaster.. Have to drain/refill to lower)
Temp 92 Full sun all day.

I run it at 5-10% during the winter to keep 1-2 Chlorine level.
