    Smile New kit

Just got my new test kit and tried it out. Here are my findings:
    FC 5
    CC .5
    TC 3-6
    pH 7.2
    Alk 250
    Cal 210
    Cya 20
    Temp 78
    Salt 600
Have a IG 18X36 concrete pool. Two speed pump with a sand filter. What should my reading be?, and are my figures O.K. The water is very clear and the pool looks great! Thanks for all you people do. I think I am starting to understand all this stuff. Something must be clicking because my pool never looked this good last year!

You used the FAS-DPD test and the test in the PS-200. They aren't compatible and your TC number can be more accurately computed by adding FC and CC to get a TC of 6ppm. This means you should shock your pool to clear the CC. Raise FC to 12ppm and see after a few hours if that does it.

    pH 7.2

Tad low, but an ig concrete pool should push it up. Still, with your Alk, you should use aeration to raise pH, and nothing else for now.

    Alk 250

Whoa! Way too high! You'll need to lower pH to 6.9 and aerate the water to raise it again. See the Lowering Alk section

    Cal 210
    Cya 20
    Temp 78
    Salt 600

these all look good, but you may want CYA at 30 instead.

With the dpd test, after the powder, you put in #2. The amount of drops divided by 2 is your free chlorine. Add the 5 drops of #3, the drops divided by 2 is your combined chlorine. Add these together and this is your free chlorine. So if you got 5 fc, and .5 cc, then your tc should be 5.5 which is good for cya of 20
.5 of cc is ok, but no higher, and 0 is better
Your ph is ok, but could be 7.4 - 7.6
Your alk is high - it should be 80 to 125
Your calcium is good, chould be 200 - 400
Your cya is low, which is ok, but you may use your chlorine up fast on a sunny day. You can look in the chlorine section of the forum and look for the "best guess chart" it will show you where your chlorine needs to be with cya.
