Default CYA levels after conversion...adding CYA.

I just completed a conversion from Bacqucil to Chlorine (took some time, but well worth it). My CYA test is not clouding up...my Taylor test kit shows the lowest CYA level at 30. The pool store "dudes" tell me my level was a 10 a week or so ago during the converstion. Is it possible that my CYA levels do not exist after the conversion? Does anyone else's test kit not cloud up at all when the CYA levels are very low??

    Thanks in advance. -REV

If you have not added any CYA during the conversion then there will be non in the pool. How is the pool store testing? If they are using a LaMotte Waterlink Express testing center then 10 is the lowest reading it will register (it doesn't go to 0). If they, or you, are using the test that invovles looking for the black dot to disappear then either 20 or 30 ppm is the lowest than can be measured, depending on the equipment (viewtube) used. The Taylor kit that you have can't measure CYA below 30 ppm so if you are under that then you need to add some to you pool. It is also called stabilizer.
