    Default Here's numbers, How am I doin'?

    Here are my numbers from a pool store drop test (Waiting to receive Ben's test kit).
    Pool: 20X40, vinyl, DE, chlorine
    FC 6
    TC 5.9
    CC -0.1
    pH 7.6
    Alk 91
    CYA 30
    Hardness 70
    Copper,iron 0
    Took me a while to stabilize pH and keep chlorine from disappearing.
    Used BBB as suggested on this site.
    1) How are my numbers? Should I do anything to improve them?
    2) I have a dispenser on the filter for chlorine tablets. Will I cause problems if I use tablets instead of regular liquid bleach?

    Those numbers look good to me , all in the proper ranges. As for the pucks, I would keep an eye on the cya levels. You're not that high now , but it could become a problem if you rely on the pucks too much

    I use bleach most of the time, this way if I am going to be away, and want to use the pucks, my cya is low enough so that I can do it. Sometimes if my ph is getting high, I put a puck in the skimmer basket (keeping the pump running), to bring down the ph. You can do this in your chlorine feeder. So the short answer is you can use both!

    I'm confused by the Cl readings.

    Is a negative CC possible??

    FC = 6
    TC = 5.9
    CC = -.1

    Sorry, these numbers are impossible.
    1st: You cannot have ANY of them less than 0. The concept is meaningless.

    2nd: Total Chlorine (TC) BY DEFINITION is the sum of Free Chlorine and Combined Chloramines. It can NEVER be less than either of them.

    Either the numbers are backwards or the Pool store tested messed up BIG TIME!!!!!

    If, actually, the numbers are reversed and TC=6, FC=5.9 and CC=.1, you are in good shape.

    The other numbers are fine.

    No, total chlorine is free chlorine plus combined chlorine. So if your free chlorine is 6 when you do the test, and you add your 5 drops of #3 and your water turns pink, if it takes 2 drops to get the water clear, your combined chlorine would be 1. So 6 plus 1 would make your total chlorine is 7. You can only get a positive reading for combined chlorine, because if the solution stays clear, then it takes 0 drops to get the solution back to clear, so the fc would be 6, the cc would be 0 and the tc would be 6. Hope this makes sense for you. If not I will try to explain better
