    Default Dorky bleach concentration question

So, does "6% Sodium Hypochlorite" (bleach) mean that it is the same as 60,000 PPM? Does X PPM mean per million molecules, moles, or what?

Does X PPM of Cl mean the "same" as in X PPM of CYA? Inquiring minds want to know! Should I just get out my old chemistry textbooks :-)

I believe, for our purposes, your math is correct, but I could be wrong.

    You are correct in that 60,000 ppm = 60,000/1,000,000*100 = 6%.

It can be in the units you mention, with the exception of weight. Sodum Hypochlorite has a different weight from water.

    Hope this helps.

1 gallon (4 quarts) of 6% bleach will add 6 ppm (parts per million) to a 10,000 gallon pool.
1 gallon of 5.25% bleach would add 5.25 ppm to a 10,000 gallon pool.
