Got my kit, here are my results

I was very excited to get my kit. I ran my first test yesterday and found that my tap water had more chlorine. The salt cell was totally gummed up. I disolved the calcium using diluted muriatic and added 2 gallons of pool store chlorine. 24 hours later I got the following results.

Alk: 160

Cya: 90

Secondly, it appears you have a serious calcium issue. 200-400 would be the range to shoot for and, assuming your test results are correct, you are more than double that. That would explain your salt cell calcifying as well.

I pre-ordered on 5/6 with FedEx Ground. It left Chattanooga,TN on 6/13, and arrived in Peoria, AZ on 6/16.

The water is mostly clear. The guess strip indicated a hardness at 1000ppm. I stopped doing the test from the PS234 after I got to 50 drops. I figured that I did something wrong and didn't want to waste any more. I'll do the Ca test again with the PS234 and report back.

I retested my Ca and at 125 drops I decided that it was time to stop wasting the Ca #3. For grins, I transferred some of the fluid from the test, into one of the small vials and added some more #3 and it turned a nice blue quickly. If I were to make a guess, my pool is floating around the 2000 - 2500ppm Ca level. Don't know if it's important, but I live in Arizona and we're known to have hard water. That calcium level is gonna' be problematic. I have no personal experience but, if it were my pool, I'd work on lowering it. The two possibilities I see mentioned on this forum are 1)partial drain and refill if your fill water is acceptable and 2) use of a water softener to remove the calcium.

Since it appears to be a regional problem, local pool companies may be able to give you some assistance based on their experience.

Sorry it took so long to get back to the forum. I just tested my fill water for CA and it is 190ppm.

I'm thinking about going the drain route. What do you all think?
