Using this post: http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showpos...50&postcount=1 as a guideline, you need to boost your chlorine level to 25 ppm (due to CYA level being as high as yours is) to shock to get rid of that CC you are showing. Also, your Alk is high. I believe you'll want to get that to at least 120, as I believe the generally accepted range is 80-120. Search the forum for the methods to lower Alk as its not something I've ever had to do. If it were me I would try to lower that CYA as well (again, search for the method on the forum for lowering it, but I believe partial drains and refills are the easiest).

My $0.03 (adjusted for inflation and the Fed raising interest rates)

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Mark

Alkalinity is fine. Don't worry about it. Also, your Total Chlorine is FC plus CC. 16 + 1 = 17 Total Chlorine.

You will need to run your chlorine higher using the best guess chart. You will also find out that once your pool is cleared up, you will need to add chlorine maybe only once a week as it takes longer to drift down to the point where you need to add chlorine again based on your CYA level. Some people like it, some don't.

Just to make sure there is no misunderstanding--let_her_flicker means that you will have to run your chlorine levels higher than most people--approx. 8-10 ppm--NOT higher than 17. However, she is correct in that TC=CC + FC.
