    hi do you really need a solar cover even if you use the fish?

    A physical solar cover will work better than the fish so yes, if you have the fish, you'll benefit from a cover.

    The reverse is not true.. if you have a physical cover, you'll get very little benefit from the fish.

    Actually, even folks w/o a physical cover get just a little benefit from the fish, but it's easy to use and not that expensive, so the little benefit is worth it. (IMHO)

    About the only time anyone sees any difference with the solar fish is if there is no water movement - ummm, got a pump and filter? Then you have water movement.....toss the fish, get a cover to KEEP the heat in, get a heater (solar or otherwise) to PUT the heat in...

    Well said. The cover keeps the heat and chemicals in the pool.

    Yup.... when I used the fish, I used bottom returns to avoid disturbing the surface. The pool is already pretty well shielded from the wind..

    I only got a *little* benefit, but it was worth it for me.
