Clorox brand bleach improved whitening formula!

In the old forum there was some discussion about the additive, sodium polyacrylate, that has been added to Clorox brand bleach and what effect it might have on pools. I have just recently learned that this is the same chemical that is used in some pool clarifier products! Once I can learn some more I will post it.

It's just possible that the new Chlorox IS better for pool use. Or is better under certain conditions. That WOULD give Chlorox a small edge, but I'm surprised they don't advertise that.

probably not enough of it in there to make a difference in a pool. If you have ever used a clarifier you know that you need a lot of it!

Somebody posted to the old thread that they had some brown precipitate in their high iron pool after adding the new Clorox, but I can't remember who it was or if they ever followed up. Clorox claims that the additive helps retain minerals in solution instead of on the clothes. It would seem that it would have some effect on pool water. Good, bad or indifferent???

gonna do some more research on this but I remember that post! So far I've found that this chemical goes by a few names (or it belongs to a group of closely related chemicals with basically the same action, not sure which) and is used in detergents as a sequestering agent. MSDS don't always list the exact chemical but ingredients on the bottle usually do. Gonna check at work today to see what I can find out! If it is seqstering metal then it might also effect calcium levels (calcium is a metal...we tend to forget that!)

And that's what happened. Added the Clorox "with" and the next day I had brown "sandy" deposits about 8' in front of my return.

The only time I have seen anything like this was when I had metal problems and the pool store gave me ferra tabs to put in my skimmer (or local water supply had a bunch of iron in it, problem at the treatment plant). All the metal eventually sequestered out, and it looked and landed exactly where the stuff after the Clorox did.

I just used it the one time, until I found a cheaper source of 6% without the additive. But in the back of my mind I've figured if I ever have a metals issue again, I plan to use use it again.

I am very interested in this thread too. My Calcium levels are pretty high (520) and this might be a cheap easy solution.
