    Default Unusual TA test results

When I did my TA test this morning, instead of the water turning from green to red, at 25 drops it turned blue and at 30 drops to a yellow-tinted clear.

My TA has been very high for weeks. Last test (day before yesterday) was 400. Can someone explain the colors this morning?

This morning my PH is finally testing 7.4 but my CL is still being maintained at shock level, so it could be that number is skewed. However, last night, in water that had de-chlorinated all day in a bowl left sitting in full sun, my PH tested 8.2. This difference in numbers overnight seems a little strange to me, too.

    Thanks for any help!

When you Cl is at shock levels, the TA reagents are being bleached out by the high Cl. If you kit has chlorine neutralizer or thiosulfate, add a couple drops of this to the sample before testing for TA. I'm not sure if the neutralizer affects the results of the test at all, but you'll get good test.

Thank you for the explanation. I don't have a neutralizer in my kit. I have the Wal-Mart kit and am waiting for my kit from Ben to arrive. I think I'll wait and re-test tonight on the water I am letting de-chlorinate in the sun today.
