Sodium Hydroxide is fine. It is also known as lye, and is in all bleach. It's a byproduct of the manufacturing process.
I just bought a couple of cases of bleach at a store called Big Lots 6 to a case. $1:30 for a gallon. The bleach I was using said it was 6%. This bottle does not tell me what % it is. It only says active ingredient sodium hypochlorite ( cas 7681-52-9) when I googled the cas # itcame up as sodium hypo 5.79%. The brand name is Sno-ee bleach. Should I assume that even the other stuff Im using is actually 5.79% also. Also only on the box it came in, not on the bottle it said it also contained sodium hydroxide .Is this ok or am I making too much of this. I just wanted to put the right figure in the bleach calc.

Bryjen,
There is a thread here that said the Sno-ee bleach from Big Lots was only 3%. I think someone called the manufactorer to get the info. I was going to go buy mine there until I saw that post. If I run across it I will link it here for you. In the meantime, you can add a gallon to your pool at night and retest in an hour and see how many PPM your FC increased. That way you will know for sure.
Yikes. Maybe thats why its not on the bottle.
