This was discussed on the old forum but I can't remember all the particulars about the discussion. However, if nothing else, trichlor is very acidic and I think having a puck in the tank would probably corrode it.
Is it safe to use trichlor puck(s) in the water tank of the toilet?
Will it have negative effects on rubber bushings/parts inside the tank?

...found the thread from the old forum (cached)
basically don't use trichlor, cal hypo, etc since it will destroy the rubber flapper and cause corrosion..
bromine tabs is ok though..
so, what do I do with a whole bucket of tabs????
Give them to a neighbor you don't like!??so, what do I do with a whole bucket of tabs????

heavily chlorinated water will screw up a lot of rubber / rubbber like compounds used in toilets etc.
We used to have a place in the Florida Keys and water was very heavily chlorinated for the long run in the pipeline from upstate.
I never knew toilets could be such a pain.
Every November when we first went down it was once through every bathroom to make a shopping list. Touch the rubber stuff in the tank and clouds of black debris would fill the tank.
And I think the levels you would get with a puck in your tank would be magnitudes more concentrated.

Keep them for when you go on vacation, or seal them tightly, keep them from getting damp, and use them next year to adjust your CYA!
