New to the forum. Just bought a house where the pool has been turned into "the swamp". 2 years of neglect. Found an umbrella at the bottom and have removed 25 wheel barrels of sludge. Vacuumed the pool and started the recovery process. I decided to try and recover the current water (22k gallons) instead of draining/fill. I'll drain it and start over if this doesn't work.

My old house had a pool so I'm relatively familiar with pools in general but by no means anything related to an expert; just general decent knowledge.

Right now, my issue with the new pool is that I have a ton of dead algae floating on the top and the skimmer can't seem to get it all down and out. Using a manual skimmer only works so well since the mess is not fine enough.

I'll post the question on how to rid the surface algae in the algae forum.
