Default New Liner In-Had Clear Water-Tech Messed Up!?!

    HI
Had a new liner put in my ~30,000 gal. IG pool. Filled it up with city water (took 2.5 days!) looked crystal clear! I knew I would have to add CYA and bleach, so I had trichlor pucks in a floater as it was filling up (saw that on another post). Pool guys came today to open up the pool (part of the package) and they turned my water to milk!!

    They added as follows : shock -3; alk - 25; calcium hardness - 25;
They overdosed on PH, since the guy said he added 25!! His partner told him your nuts, so they went to get PH minus. They also added .5 qt. each of clarifier, algaecide, & bacteriacide.

    I was really upset !!

Called manager, he said you probably used well water, which I didn't. He then said after running my DE filter it'll clear up.

Just tested water at home & at pool place:

    alk:150
    ph: 8 +
    fc: 0
    cya: 0

pool store test showed calcium at ~140.

I need a plan of action!! Can anyone please HELP??

Dump two gallons of 5.25% bleach in the skimmer and then you need to get some muratic acid to bring the pH down. Also throw some tri-chlor tabs in the floater that will bring pH down and also add CYA.

How much muriatic acid would I need & how do I put it in? Also, where can I buy it?

    One more question:

I downloaded the bleach calculator, but can't figure it out. Why would I need to enter "quantity of bleach"? Isn't that what the calculator should tell me?

    Thanks!

work on one thing at a time....(wel actually two....but chorine should be a given here)

Tonight I would add 1 gallon of Muriatic acid (buy two because you will probably need the second) But add 1 gallon and remeasure PH.

Also add 3 gallons of clorox (an hour after the muriatic just to be safe)and measure the FC and PH after another hour...then remeasure in the morning to see if it held over night.

how milky is it? Don't let the pool store add ANYTHING else o the watr and i would NOT pay for anything they added ..in fact I wuuld be gettign a refund on anything they "included" in the price.

The reason your pool turned milky is that they put calcium chloride and sodium bicarbonate in at the same time while the pH was high! this will form calcium carbonate (scale) precipitated throughout the water! Lowering your pH to 7.0 (carefully) will help to redissolve some of it. ALK should always be ajusted first and allowed to stabilize for about 48 hours before adding calcium to avoid this very thing from happeneing!
BTW, why are you putting calcium into a vinyl pool? It doesn't need it unless you have a heater.

    Wetshoes:
    The advice here is sound:
You NEED chlorine and you need to lower your pH.
Calcium is a waste of money in vinyl pools.

The GOOD news is everything you've stated is fixable, quite easily.

    Hi Thanks for the advice!

Last night I added a gal of muriatic acid, waited 1 hr. & added 3 gal bleach. Waited another hour & tested.

    ph 7.3
    fc 5
    cc 0

The water is slooowllyy clearing up. But the numbers seem good. Tested this morning, fc level same as last night.

Am I on the right track? Is there anything I need to do?

Should I be running de filter until water clears up? Or will it clear up by itself?

Sounds like you are on the right track. For sure keep the filter running.

I see some of the white dust settled on the bottom of the pool. Will it ruin my new liner? Or can it stay there until it clears up by itself?

    Thanks!
