This is my first pool and I have already learned a lot and have been doing lots of research on here. I have a 15'x48" AG Intex pool with a Crystal Clear 637R filter pump (came with the pool). I was having a lot of trouble keeping the algae at bay, lots of cloudiness, and high alkalinity. I went on vacation and my husband was not able to keep up with it while I was gone. We dumped it last week and have started over. I used well water to fill, I did the bucket/bleach test and it was fine. I used the Super Simple Start Up plan. I just received my Taylor test kit last night. I am waiting for my Kem-Tech 005 All in One Concentrated Chlorinating Granules to arrive today and have also ordered a Unicel Filter but haven't put it in yet as I just had put in a new Intex one and am going to use it up first. I had previously used the Chlorine Tabs but am not using them this time as I now realize my CYA was probably really high. I have been adding 4 cups of regular Bleach every evening and I have added 4 cups of Borax twice. So far the water looks great. I took my first readings last night and this morning. My readings from this morning was: .5ppm Combined Chlorine, 4.5ppm Free Chlorine, PH 7.6-7.8 and my Alkalinity was so high I quit adding drops. Does all this sound like I am on the right track? How much of the Kem-Tech Granules should I start with and for how many days do I add it? The Granules will add CYA right? I am still kinda confused as to how much CYA to add? Also, how do I get my Alkalinity to go down or do I not worry about that yet? Thank you in advance for any tips or advice.
