I have an intex 18x48 vinyl pool. it was very cloudy for a few days however, I did get it clear.
I used a flocculant and my pool cleared beautifully! So I started using bleach and got a good test as suggested. All levels acceptable (will post soon-I am no longer near the kit) and I had 6 swimmers in it a hour or so ago and now it is cloudy again. I put 1/2 gallon of bleach in. Should I just let the filter run to maybe clear sunscreen or shut it off as maybe I still have some Floc circulating?

We can all provide some pretty good guesses at the issue, but a full set of test results will probably reveal why your water turned cloudy

What size pool? Does it have a vinyl liner?

STOP IT. The other thread had 43 posts and was locked by CarlD and rightfully so. You cannot expect people to magically find the other thread with 43 posts, in another forum, read them all, then come to your aid. You should have the idea about basic maintenance by now. Read that thread again, as Carl stated, pay attention, and either choose to follow the advice given here, or ignore it. If you choose to ignore it, Good Luck. I stayed out of the last one as this isn't my area of expertise, but I am a moderator and my volunteer duties dictate what I do.

Wow-like I said-I started doing the bleach and got a good test and now I am just looking for help with swimmer cloudiness.
I was just trying to get an answer to a new question.
I have switched over to the pool solutions way , like I was advised in my last thread and I was looking for help-not attitude.

It's the same question: Why is your pool cloudy? Why, oh why is it not clear and sweet? (like Poconos's or mine) Despite all the advice we gave, despite a VERY lengthy PM I sent you, you chose to use a flocculent, which we did NOT advise you to do--to take a short-cut rather than follow tried-and-true methods to clear your pool permanently.

Your short-cut didn't work--We could have told you it wouldn't. Now you are here saying "Help!" Attitude? It seems to me the only one with an attitude is the person who keeps asking for quick fixes and won't listen to sound advice because it's not easy or fast.

The answer is in the PM I sent you.

You need to do your own testing so you always have up-to-date info.

99% of the time a cloudy pool means there's algae. The other 1% of the time it means there's too much calcium. Most other problems are rare.

or:

You need to run your filter 24/7, clean it regularly, brush your pool's walls and bottom EVERYDAY and vacuum ever day (to waste, if possible. you can get your vacuum to run as a syphon and save your filter).

These are very simple steps:
1) Test 3x day
2) Keep chlorine at the shock level for your CYA level--You know this from your testing so you may be adding it 3x a day.
3) keep pH in the 7.3-7.8 range
4) Brush and vacuum everyday.
5) be patient and persistent.

I warned you:

I've given you a simple and complete plan. Not easy, but simple. If you prefer not to follow it or my alternative, I cannot help you.

Finally, I said:

I really DO want you to have a clean and safe pool you can enjoy and maintain with as little work as possible. But ultimately, the responsibility for your pool is totally yours, not mine. YOU have to fix it--I can only tell you how. Whether you choose to do that is up to you.

I am being mis-understood or maybe unclear. The flocculant did work-it worked GREAT!

I had swimmers in there today and it got cloudy ( I am guessing from the sunscreen I put on them) So I was hoping to find out what to do after swimmers go in. DO you raise the bleach-add shock what?

I cannot believe how stupid I am being made feel over pool questions. I am doing the things you suggested, I am just not quite clear on them yet.

I'm totally new to this pool business and English is not my primary language but if I understand Carl is telling you that he nor anobody else suggested you put flocculant in your pool (except for the pool store who are there to make money). You chose to put the flocculant in...you think you got a good result but the problem is returning and so are you.

I guess I just want to understand if it can get cloudy from swimmers and if so, what to do under the bleach and other grocery conversions. Do I just bleach like crazy after every swimming session? If this is the common problem from Floc and someone here knows that-please if you can advise me.

I cannot remember the last time I suggest someone floc their water. You didn't get that idea from me or from anybody here at Pool Forum. In fact, early in the last thread, the locked one, I explicitly told you NOT to use a flocculant:

If you didn't use the flocculent, don't. He's not addressing your problem. Floc is for particles too small for the filter to catch.

No one else here suggested flocculant either.

Your decision to add floc did not come from anyone here at Pool Forum. I don't know where you got the idea from--I guess from the pool store guy. I also told you that you cannot follow both his advice and ours--they are contradictory so it's got to be one or the other.

Let me make this very clear: Your decision to add flocculant to your pool was the opposite of what we advised you to do. Therefore all responsibility for the consequences of your action are yours. I will not help you because I cannot help you.

I suggest you follow the pool store's advice since you won't follow ours.

Sure, your water went clear when you flocc'd it. Then it went cloudy again. Why do you think I told you not to use it?

I HATE being this tough on any member. It's just not in my nature. I've really tried to help you and you have done the exact opposite of what I have advised. I would much preferred to have been able to, but that was up to you, not me.
