Hopefully Mas985 will respond soon!
Hello all!
Just got my recent electric bill and was knocked out!
I can only assume that this is because of the increase in dropped leaves into my
pool and the need to run the pool vacuum constantly.
My local electricity utility offers $150 rebate on most EE motors.
My pool is about 24000 gallons..
I live in the Sacramento Valley where the daytime highs during the winter are usually
in the low 50's. Summers are high's 90's.
I took a pic of my current motor..
Not sure what HP it is..
Can someone offer advise as to a good EE motor?
Is variable better than single speed?
Is this motor 1 or 1 1/2 HP?
Here is the the list of the EE rebated motors. Thanks a bunch!

26K gal 20x40 rectangular IG vinyl pool; Apr 2014: New pump, liner, auto-cover, & water; Pentair Whisperflo 1HP pump; Pentair Trition sand filter; Cover/Star CS-500 auto cover; Taylor K-2006C; OTO
That appears to be a 1 HP full rated motor.
Switching to a VS or two speed may not help you much if your pool cleaner requires a higher flow rate to work properly. However, a VS would allow you to "optimize" for the lowest flow rate possible although you may not fully realize the full cost savings because of the cleaner.I can only assume that this is because of the increase in dropped leaves into my
pool and the need to run the pool vacuum constantly.
Without knowing your current equipment list (including cleaner, filter and controller) and assuming you have no high flow rate needs, the Hayward MaxFlo VS and the Pentair SuperFlo VS are two very good low end VS pumps at a good price point. However, if you have a separate controller you want to interface the pump with, this suggestion might change.
Another option would be to just swap out your current motor with a two speed motor. This is usually a cheaper option but you may not be able to run the cleaner on low speed.

Ok I am risking putting my head on the block here but..........if you have lots of dropped leaves and need to run the pool vacuum constantly then your skimming action isn't working very well. After all skimmers don't work at all if the pump is off. Is it cheaper to run the pump for skimming than it is to run the vacuum constantly? Sorry if I have taken you literally but just trying to get the picture.
Happy new year to all, In case I can't log in again until afterwards.
