Pump Motor Covers Neccessary?

Hey folks,

Bought a new pump and when I was there I figured I'd buy a Pump Motor Cover
(Seen here: http://www.lesliespool.com/shopping/...ProductID=8347)

The salesman said it's good to use them.

Before I pop this on though, I started growing concerned that maybe it could do more damage than good. Like prevent proper air circulation or cause overheating.

So, what's the real deal? Is it good to use these motor covers, is it unneccessary, or is it potentially harmful?

I assume it's open at both ends and if so then it looks like plenty of ventilation. One advantage I see is the suns heat won't hit the motor housing so that should let it run cooler. Go for it. Neat idea and for $14 you can't go wrong.

I bought the exact same one.....there are bands inside that "slide" over the motor........apparently they dont slide correctly over the NorthStar motor but I just use it without the bands (put it over the motor itself, it was long enough to sit on my equipment pad without interfering). The motor exhausts out the back so it doesnt effect ventilation, and the case of it stays noticeable cooler (exactly why do manufacturers make their motor cases black when most likely they will be in the hot sun all day? beyond me).

Wont do any harm as long as you dont cover wherever the motor vents to.
