Default Automatic Pool Cover Ropes Severely Tangled

I have an approximately 11 year automatic pool cover that was made by Cantar (who is no longer in business). The cover has a history of working great and has held up well. Somehow the ropes that are used to open and cover the pool are severely tangled around the roll up tube. In fact, I can't even manually unwind the tube because somehow, the ropes are creating tension in both directions. Any suggestions on how to address this would be appreciated.

Oh my. I sure hope you get a reply soon on that one! My ropes did the same thing once and I had an installer replace the ropes. The pulley system is complicated and we felt it was beyond our DIY skills. Good luck!
