I have a 3 year old fiberglass pool. Last year I noticed 2 full thickness chips in the gelcoat. Both chips are less than 3 mm. The next layer, vinyl ester resin, is not affected. This year, I noticed 2 additional superficial pits in the gelcoat.
Questions:
1. Is it necessary to repair these? I am assuming this is only cosmetic and not a structural issue.
2. If I was to repair, how can it be done without having the pool drained?
3. Possible causes?
I contacted the manufacturer. They said it is cosmetic only. I wanted other thoughts on this.
Thank you.
