Well, for some reason I can't access my profile. Still getting insufficient authority thing.

As for my pool, all is well for now. Been lurking here for some time and decided to give the BBB a go. Has worked out well. I was putting tons of chlorine in my pool and fighting algae all the time. Got my Alkaline and PH right using Borax and Baking Soda. For the first time in a long while when I shocked (verb) the pool I had to vacuum out dead algae. Now my chlorine level holds and the pool looks good.

So, now we get to the good stuff. My TA is at 100, PH at 7.2 (same as local rain water), CYA a little high at 100, 20,000 vinyl liner 25+ years old, Hayward sand filter with 1hp pump. Metal #s are very low.

My chlorine level has held steady for about a week without having to add anything. Now it is 'waning'; OTO test between 3 and 5. My CYA requires it to be at around 5. No signs of algae. Will add some household chlorine bleach to get it back up to 5. Should take about 1/2 gallon? Now, my question is, When do I need to shock (verb) the pool or do I ever need to unless algae starts to grow?

If your CYA is 100, your chlorine level should be between 8 and 15. If your OTO test goes to "5", you can dilute pool water with steam distilled water 1:1 and "5" indicates a chlorine level of 10. I like to use a shot glass to get equal amounts to mix.

If you need to go further, 2 shots of distilled to one shot of pool means a reading of "5" on the OTO scale is really 15.
