Default Coping / Deck expansion joint

I just had an in-ground pool put in about 2 months ago and the expansion joint between the coping and the deck has enlarged from about 3/8" to about 1". Is a 1" gap too large? I can't find any info on what the max size should be but most say it will run about 1/2". I just want to know if I need to be worried about it?
