Number of pool returns/inlets

What criteria might one use to determine the appropriate number of returns/inlets to the pool from the pump/filter?

The pool in question is not yet constructed, but it is tentatively planned to be 10' x 33', with an average depth of 4', for a total capacity of just under 10,000 gallons.

I cannot imagine more than 1 skimmer, 1 low drain, and 1 return. I have almost 20,000 gallons in a 16x40 with a 5.5 deep end and that's all I have or need.
