Fighting a swamp!:O(

OK, sadly in my first battle of the green water. Since I started here my water has been great. Then last week we had a strong winds then storms come through. Blew lots of debris in pool and temps dropped.(Very unusual for Louisiana this time of year.) The water was freezing so I whoosed out and didn't get in to clean the pool for a few days.(I know this is totally my fault) When I did get out there there was yellow orangy looking stuff on bottom and lots of leaves and sticks. After vacuuming and sweeping the water turned green and cloudy. Added extra bleach and cleaned filter. Still doesn't keep my kids out so afraid to shock until today. Still green and cloudy. You can barely see the patterns on the bottom. I need help and support. Going to get lots of bleach today and sadly just ran out of the chlorine tester and my cya testers in my kit so will have to reorder those. Here is this mornings readings. FC 4.6, CC .4, pH 7.8 and CYA around 50. Can yall give me the level I need to keep my chlorine at for best results and how much bleach to add. I just dumped a gallon in last night and this was the reading this morning so guessing bunches.:O(

I am estimating your volume to be 11,500. Each quart of 8.25% bleach will add about 1.8ppm and each of the 121-oz jugs will add just under 7. Use those as reference to help you figure out doses of bleach to add.

Thanks watermom. So what level should I keep my level at. chart shows 6 normal high and then 15 shock 30 high shock. Is about 15 good or do I need to the highest to do a killoff? Sorry just want this gone and a little confuse on how extact I'll need to be.

Good morning. So, I went a little high on chlorine. Since I'm out on my Taylor test kit I'm using the OTO until I get more. The FC is 25 on the check your high chlorine scale. an orange color. Ph is up to 8.2. Guessing I'll need to bring that down also. Hoping I can wait until my water is clear but will go with yall's suggestions. I used my saltwater test kit for high pH to get the accurate number. Not seeing a big improvement this morning . I thought with chlorine so high it would really work. Hoping this doesn't mean I have something extra tough. I am most likely going to have to skip vacuuming unless my numbers drop. I did get sunburned out their yesterday anyway. :O( will check numbers around noon and report back.

Ok, just checked the chlorine with the OTO drops and looks more like dark yellow with tint of orange so about 13ppm. with this big drop I added a 121oz jug of bleach. I am actually finally seeing an improvement. Will check again in several hours. Staying out of the pool until I can get a true reading though for safety. Just so glad to see the improvement. can see the bottom better. I do see sediment on bottom and will have to find a way to vacuum for sure tomorrow.

Yay! finally got my water all cleared and my unicel filters are in. REALLY! am I the only one that can't get them to work in the intex pump. I ordered the ones for the type B and when you compare them to the cheap Walmart filters they should be the same size but. the whole is the exact same size as the little part where it should sit on top and bottom. Tried using Vaseline even to get it together with no luck. Anyone else have this issue? What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like somehow you got the wrong size filters. The hole should fit snug on the pump.

Vaseline (nor any other petroleum product) is not compatible with plastic pool parts. Please clean off all you can and get it out of any nooks and crannies. We had to replace a summer escapes pump this summer because it was lubed with vaseline. The hose fitting snapped right off.

Can you post exact model numbers for the filters and pump?

Ok, You need to use the teflon or silicone lubricant recommended for rubber O-rings. Petroleum products destroy the rubber.

I am fighting a bloom as well, but because my liner is old and I don't care about bleaching, I've got my FC level a lot higher than the 15ppm recommended.
I wouldn't worry much about going over by a bit, even to 24ppm, because it will come down fairly quickly and it's worse to be UNDER 15ppm than over.
It's not certain how much over the recommended shock level you can go, or for how long, before you risk bleaching the liner.

Thanks BigDave , got all Vaseline off and ended up having to shave a tiny bit at the whole to make it bevel(?) a bit to get it to slip down. It was the recommended unicel C-5315 through this Amazon site and it is working perfect now, still real snug. Everything seems to be working and water is clear. CarlD, Have FC at 5 this morning. Got double extra drops for my Taylor kit so I can be more exact. I'm guessing I'm not too good of a guesser with the OTO so don't want to risk the guessing game again. :O)
